Baselle's DRP Funds, etc.

February 8th, 2008 at 04:29 am

As I mentioned, I am here because I randomly found Baselle's blog and was utterly fascinated by her DRPs and her tip box and her accruing savings. I lived vicariously.

I need to do something smart with my savings that are sitting in a money market account at 3.9% interest.

So, anyway, here is what I spent yesterday:

$25.00 in gas for my car (debit card)

$21.25 -- an EBay auction for an item for a Christmas present for my child (worth $55 in a store!)

Today:

$3.05 -- Starbuck's. Yep. You would think that as a Baselle fan, I would know better.

$5.50 -- lunch, salad and iced tea

Major financial concern: paying for college starting in Fall of 2009

Well, what are your ultimate plans with the savings? - and how much of your savings are you willing to put in. Your college plans are only a year away, so if you are thinking about doing something as short term risky as investing in equities, the time's wrong on that.

However if you don't need the money right away DRPs are fun and a great learning experience. So are T-bills, TIPS (scfr), a little gold (Dollars for Dough Nuts).

FYI - I enjoyed my $3 drip coffee. So don't be too embarassed.

    Baselle,

I am researching college financial aid, etc., and am expecting to pay $13K a year (no loans), either at a public university or at a private with lots of aid, for which child may qualify.

What are TIPS and gold Dough Nuts??

My goal is to increase my savings. And my other goal is to go around the world (about $35K).

I am expecting to receive approx $150K within the next six months (a settlement payment).
